Transport Any Size or Type of Forklift
Forklifts are used to lift and transport materials over short distances. There are two types of forklifts: construction and warehouse. Construction forklifts are designed to handle heavy loads on an open work sites, while warehouse forklifts operate in tighter spaces.

Warehouse forklifts run on gasoline, natural gas, propane or electricity. Construction forklifts use diesel. The basic types of forklift include:

Construction Forklift Transport. The two main work site forklifts are telehandlers and rough-terrain forklifts. Telehandlers feature telescoping booms, rough-terrain forklifts have large attachments. Both use RGNs.
Warehouse Forklift Transport. So many types of warehouse forklift: low-lift, stacker, picker, reach-truck, side-loader, etc. Ask your transport agent about finding space as a partial load for your solo warehouse forklift.
An average warehouse forklift weighs 10,000 pounds, while a typical construction forklift is about twice as heavy. Shipping construction forklifts usually demand their own full-size trailer. Warehouse forklifts can be shipped on smaller trailers, particularly over short distances.

Trucks and Trailers to Haul Your Forklift
When it comes to shipping, ground clearance is the main difference between the two types of forklifts. Construction forklifts have plenty of ground clearance to help them navigate construction sites. Since they ride on smooth concrete floors, warehouse forklifts have minimal ground clearance.

Ground clearance comes into play when you’re pushing a machine up ramps for loading. Steep ramps can make it difficult to load a warehouse forklift, especially on a flatbed. Trailers used to transport forklifts include:

RGN Trailer. Only the largest construction telehandlers require RGN trailers for transport. Even your rough-terrain forklift should fit on a step deck.
Step Deck Trailer. The basic trailer used to haul construction forklifts. Smaller warehouse forklifts can travel as a partial load on the upper deck.
Flatbed Trailer. Perfect for shipping most warehouse forklifts. We can’t say it enough: You need a dock to load and unload a forklift from a flatbed.
Rollback trailers. are another option. These specialized flatbed trailers have beds that tilt to the ground for easy loading. Rollbacks, which are more expensive to rent than flatbeds, are used mainly for local or regional transports.

Tips for Successfully Shipping Your Forklift
Please remember to measure your forklift attachments if you’re shipping them alongside your unit. Construction forklift attachments like grabbers and buckets, can be pretty big, truck space and weight has to be considered when shipping these items. Warehouse forklift attachments like baskets and drum handlers require the same thing, to be weighed and measured.

The typical flatbed has a height of roughly five feet off the ground. That gives you eight-feet, six inches before you exceed most states’ height restrictions before permits would be needed. If your forklift stands more than eight-and-a-half feet tall, you’ll need to ship it on a hotshot trailer or a step-deck trailer which the more sensible cheaper way to go.
